ca. 1745; bearing the arms of BENNET, Earl of Tankerville quarterly of six impaling COLVILLE; decorated with puce and gilt panels featuring alternating foliate and landscape vignettes; diameter: 9 in.

  • Notes: The arms are those of Charles Bennet, second Earl of Tankerville, impaling Colville for his wife, Camilla Colville. Bennet was the son of Charles Bennet, first Earl of Tankerville, and Lady Mary Grey, daughter of Ford Grey, first Earl of Tankerville. Styled Lord Ossulston from 1714 until he succeeded his father in 1722, he was appointed a Knight of the Thistle in 1730 and served as Captain of the Yeomen of the Guard under Sir Robert Walpole from 1733 to 1737. He was also Lord Lieutenant of Northumberland from 1740 until his death in 1753. Camilla Colville served as a Lady of the Bedchamber to Queen Caroline and later to Princess Augusta.
