LUCILE BLANCH (American, 1895-1981) SEATED WOMAN

  • Notes: Blanch studied art at the Minneapolis School of Fine Art and the Art Students League. Married to Arnold Blanch until 1935, Lucile was a WPA artist and member of the Woodstock Artists Association. Noteworthy was her 1933 Guggenheim Fellowship, awarded the same year as her husband's fellowship. It was the first time a husband and wife simultaneously received this prestigious award. In addition to her painting, Lucile was in charge of the Intelligentsia, the rustic restaurant in the Woodstock Art Colony that catered to the artistic community during the summer months.
