(American, 1786-1864) PORTRAIT OF REBECCA HOWE FRISKE oil on canvas; 36 1/8 x 28 7/8 inches Note: The Boston artist James Frothingham painted this work around 1832. The sitter, Rebecca Howe Fiske, was born in Concord, Massachusetts and married Benjamin Fiske of Fiske-Hill, Concord Road, Lexington on May 14, 1769. The scene depicted in the upper right hand corner is the Fiske home on Fiske-Hill where, in April, 1775, American forces battled the British. A note, written by William Bridge Fiske and date Sept. 23, 1900, discussing this portrait and the genealogy of the sitter, is attached to the reverse.
