(French, 1725-1792) PORTRAIT BUST OF BENJAMIN FRANKLIN white marble; height: 20 3/4 inches Note: Jean-Jacques Caffieri sculpted a terracotta bust of Franklin in 1777. Exhibited in the Paris Salon of that year, it is presently in the collection of the Bibliotheque Mazarine, Paris. Eight plaster casts after this terracotta are listed in the artist's atelier inventory, although more may have been cast.
