  • Notes: Wendell Castle is known as one of the foremost furniture artists of the 20th century. In 1958, Castle received his B.A. in Industrial design and an M.F.A. in sculpture from the University of Kansas. His earliest works focused on creating organic forms using stack laminated wood techniques. In the 70's and 80's his work first focused on creating illusionistic pieces in wood, then to finely crafted, yet more conventional forms. Castle's works were the subject of the Detroit Institute of Arts 1990 retrospective titled "Furniture by Wendell Castle". Since 1984 he has been an Artist-in-Residence at the Rochester Institute of Technology, School for American Craftsmen, Rochester, New York. His works can be found at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the Delaware Art Museum and the Lewis Collection.
