Walter Gay American, 1856-1937 Pavillon Petit Colombe signed Walter Gay, 1 I.; inscribed on stretcher on reverse: Walter Gay "Pavillon Petit Columbes'Louis XV - owned by Edith Wharton in St. Brie Sous Foret outside Pans; oil on canvas; 21.75in x 18inches Note: Edith Wharton purchased Pavillon Colombe in 191 8 Walter and Matilda Gay, close friends of Wharton's, visited there frequently. This Painting depicts one of Walter Gay's favorite rooms, of which sonice painted several views. This painting appears to be the only one of those views that Edith Wharton kept for herself.
