circa 1860; This two story house with dormered roof, contains four rooms, two up and two down separated by a staired hall. This wonderful dolls' house was reportedly built in the 1860's by a member of the Hanna family of Fort Wayne, Indiana.* In Flora Gill Jacob's book Doll's Houses in America, the author associates this dolls' house with the Carnahan house currently located at a museum in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The Carnahan sisters were the daughters of William Carnahan who married Clara Hanna, the daughter of James Bayless Hanna, in 1864. It is believed that James Hanna's daughter Mary Margaret was the original owner of this house. Since the Carnahan sisters and Mary Margaret Hanna were first cousins, it is plausible they would have had similar dolls' houses. The author further supposes the house may have been presented to a seven year old Ms. Hanna for Christmas in 1886. Note: As noted in Flora Gill Jacobs book A History of Dolls' Houses, revised edition 1965, Charles Scribner's Sons, NY, page 106, and also in her book Dolls' Houses in America, 1974, Charles Scribner's Sons, NY, pages 172-173.
