Ten Watercolor Portrait Miniatures of Dogs, most signed Gertrude Massey or F Wain, together with Two Silver Dog Charms and a Silver Gilt Locket
five depicting Japanese Chin Dogs, one depicting a Pug Dog, one depicting a Pekingese Dog and a Cat seated together, one depicting a terrier "Dot", (painted by Marg. A Smith, Didbrook, Glasgow, 1913), two with pearl bead frames, depicting small dogs. Framed size of largest: 6 1/2 x 6 1/2 in. with miniature diameter of 3 in.; length of larger rectangular miniatures: 4 1/2 in.

Provenance: A Sutton Place, New York City and Newport, Rhode Island Estate

Other Notes: Gertrude Massey (1868-1957) was a miniature portrait painter to many royal patrons. Originally hired to paint portraits of their families, she ultimately became the official portrait painter of their dogs. Her patrons included Edward, Prince of Wales (King Edward VII), and his wife, Queen Alexandra, as well as Queen Victoria of Norway.
