  • Notes: Founded in 1904, Seaman Schepps is an enduring name in American fine jewelry. Schepps himself was an embodiment of the American dream, rising to prominence in the 1930s from his upbringing in the tenements on New York's Lower East Side. His witty jewelry designs innovatively combined chunky gems with then-novel jewelry materials such as seashells and rosewood. Schepps' designs, as his granddaughter recalls, "catered to the newly independent, and independently affluent, American woman-a casually elegant creature, impatient with convention and fired by an entrepreneurial spirit." Indeed, Schepps's pieces were coveted by clients including Katherine Hepburn, Coco Chanel, the Duchess of Windsor, and Andy Warhol.
