RUSSIAN ICON; 19th century; 14 x 12 inches

  • Notes: RUSSIAN ICON, 19th century; depicting St. Sergius of Radonezh; Note: St. Sergius is the most famous monk-saint of Russia. He founded the Holy Trinity Monastery, of Moscow, the largest in Russia. Courtesy of Frank Ford, Museum of Russian Icons, Clinton, Massachusetts.
  • Condition: The back is pencil inscribed 18th century St. Sergius of Radonezh. Under uv light there is over paint in the borders, image background and in the right cheek of the saint. There are also several flake losses throughout and the upper right corner is restored (poorly) I would estimate approximately 10% is overpainted.
