  • Provenance: Purportedly by descent from Edgar Allan Poe.

    According to family history the silver service was first given to Mr. and Mrs. John Allan on their 25th wedding anniversary on February 5th, 1828. Upon Mrs. Allan's death in 1829 the service was left to her adopted son, the writer, Edgar Allan Poe. Neilson Poe was a cousin of Edgar Allan Poe. From Judge Neilson Poe to Philip Livingston Poe (1879-1970), by descent.
