NORMAN ROCKWELL, (American, 1894-1978), THE FIREMAN, oil and graphite on paperboard;

  • Condition: Overall this painting is in stable condition and does not present tears, paper losses, or planar distortions. The paper is glued to an acidic artist board support. Visually, the paper is mildly oxidized at the edges from contact with acidic material and a natural process of aging due to UV light exposure. There is slight adhesive staining along the edges resulting from attachment to an earlier mat that has since been removed. Overall, the media appears very well preserved and does not exhibit signs of cupping or paint loss.
    The photograph has two surface abraisions. The ink inscription exhibits some evidence of fading.
