and a Signed Valentine's Day Card from ANDREW WYETH (American, 1917-2009) to Alice Moore

Dearest Alice:
Again I must excuse my self for not writing sooner and again it's the same reason, painting like hell. I have been working on several egg tempera panels. Ones of these is a self-portrait. I think you would like it. The other two are landscapes. I also have been doing a great deal of drawing which has kept me busy. I have done some water colors but the weather has been too cold to work outdoors very much, although we haven't had a bit of snow here, damn it
.
Look in the April number of Scribner's and you might find something that will interest you. Just got a letter from Macbeth announcing the sale of a water color to the museum in Atlanta, GA. He also tells me that people are asking for more of my water colors which is good to hear.
You must have had a very interesting time with Tristram Coffin wish I could have been there. I have been reading his book of poems which I think are swell. They remind me of Robert Frost a good deal, don't you think so? (not as deep) I read Mrs. Etnier's [Elizabeth Etnier (1911-1991)] book [On Gilbert Head: Maine Days] last summer and I thought it was terrible have you read it? Peter Hurd knows Mr. Etnier [Stephen Morgan Etnier (1903-1984)] very well, in fact he went to school with him. I met several years ago, didn't like him much at the time, looked too much like an artist (he is one).
It certainly does seem ages since I saw you last and I do so much want to see you again. I am planning to come to New York this coming Monday with Carolyn and I am going to try to get to see you. Will you be home Monday night? It will be grand and swell to hold you in my arms again my dear, will you mind?
I think my father and I are going to Maine in several weeks. He needs the rest very much. It will be very nice to see what Maine looks like this time of year.
I will call you from New York Monday and let you know if I can come out.
Take care of yourself my pretty one and wait for me.
Love
Andy
P.S. I am enclosing a print I thought you might like to have.
A.W.
