JOSEPH MEERT (Belgian/American, 1905-1989)


  • Notes: Meert, identified as an abstract expressionist, studied under Sloan and Benton at the Art Students League and eventually taught at the Kansas City Art Institute from 1935-1941. A personal friend of Jackson Pollock, it was Meert who saved his life in 1943 after finding him passed out in a snowdrift. Meert's work was exhibited at several of the Whitney Museum of American Art annuals in the 1940's and 50's.
  • Condition: very good, not lined; no patches or tears..black light looks good.
