- Notes: While in Paris in the autumn of 1859, Whistler made nine drypoints of himself and his friends , thus marking the first time he focused on portraiture through printmaking. One of the most impressive of these plates was this depiction his sculptor friend, Drouet. The print displays Whistlers keen focus on capturing facial expression and the influence of the 17th century Dutch Master etchers. (The Etchings of James McNeill Whistler, Yale University Press, 1984, p. 102-104.)
- Condition: loose; hinged at top; mat burn; some discolorations overall and minor staining, l.r.
