Provenance: Estate of a Southeastern Massachusetts Lady.

Other Notes: Hester (Needham) Bateman (1708-1794) became the wife of the goldsmith John Bateman in 1732. They had 6 children and when her husband died in 1760, Hester took over the family business which became a prominent 18th century London silversmithing company. Hester's sons, daughter-in-law, grandson, and great-grandson became the legacy that kept the Bateman family silversmithing company active until the mid 19th century.
