FEDERAL GILTWOOD MAHOGANY AND REVERSE PAINTED GIRONDOLE WALL CLOCK, Lemuel Curtis, Concord, Massachusetts, maker, early 19th century
the gilt case with gilt eagle finial, the throat tablet depicting American shields and an eagle, the lower tablet depicting Commerce and inscribed Commerce; the throat table signed L. Curtis, Concord; the works inscribed [??] Brewster, August 9, 1823; overall height: approx. 44 in.; height of banjo portion of clock: 32 in.; diameter of clock face: 7 1/4 in.

Provenance: Property of an Osterville, Massachusetts Estate.

Other Notes: Business card of Robert C. Cheney stating Overhaul, July 1994 found inside clock.


  • Condition: The case, the dial, the eglomise panels, and carved ornamentation all appear to be original. Some losses to gilding, one repaired break to base carving. Minor paint loss to dial.
