Other Notes: The Miracle of the Mule depicts the moment of St. Anthony of Padua's conversion of a local heretic in 1227. Three days prior, the heretic had to Anthony that he would only believe that Christ was present in the Eucharist if his mule bowed before it. Anthony and the heretic decided that they should test the mule in three days' time. For three days the heretic starved his mule, then stood on one side of him with fragrant oats and hay. On the other side stood Anthony with a monstrance containing the consecrated Host. The mule ignored his owner and instead bowed before Anthony and his owner followed suit, denouncing his heretical ways.
