CHINESE EXPORT OCTAGONAL ARMORIAL PLATE WITH ROYAL COAT OF ARMS, ca. 1780
bearing the crowned Arms quarterly of Scotland, France, Ireland, and Hanover being held aloft by a Lion and a Unicorn; diameter: 9 1/2 in.

Provenance: Property of a Boston Family

Other Notes: Plate bears an extensive label on verso stating that the plate came from a service made in 1780 for His Royal Highness Prince William Henry, (b. 1742) the 1st Duke of Gloucester & Edinburgh, and brother to King George III. The Duke lived at Gloucester House, London until his death in 1805 and the porcelain service remained at Gloucester House until 1904.


  • Condition: plate broken in half and restored; several rim repairs
