signed Carl Kahler, l.r.
20 x 16 in. (30 x 26 in.)

Provenance: Property of a Massachusetts Lady.

Other Notes: On November 3, 2015, Carl Kahler's painting, My Wife's Lovers, brought a record $826,000 at Sotheby's New York. The monumental canvas features 42 cats that were owned by millionaire Kate Birdsall Johnson of San Francisco. Mrs. Johnson commissioned Kahler to paint her cats in 1891. She had a particularly affinity for Persian and Angora breeds, like the cat rendered in this painting, Kitten on a Sofa.
