  • Provenance: From the Estate of the Artist; By descent to the current owner
  • Notes: Arapoff, born in St. Petersburg, was the son of noble parents. After six years of Soviet Rule, Arapoff escaped from the Soviet state with a travelling circus headed for Paris. During his time in Paris, his painting career flourished and he exhibited in the Paris Salons along side Renoir, Vouillard, Bonnard and Modigliani. Never leaving behind the influence of the travelling circus, Arapoff continued to design costumes for the Parisian opera, ballet and circuses to supplement his income.
