18K Yellow Gold and Emerald Pendant/Brooch
depicting the Colombian sun god; featuring a bezel-set emerald measuring approx. 5.79 x 5.38 x 3.60 mm. and 14 circle-cut emeralds; 10.22 dwts.; lg. 2 3/4 in.

Provenance: Collection of a Milton, Massachusetts Lady, purchased in Colombia, ca. 1970.

Other Notes: In ancient Colombian civilizations, gold was believed to be a product of the sun, the supreme procreator, and as such had special associations with fertility and power. While this featured pendant/brooch is a modern example, it is inspired by ancient examples of this commonly represented deity.


  • Condition: minor surface scratches/abrasions to the gold on verso, consistent with light wear.
