    The unfettered, spontaneous brushwork and subtle inflections of blue and grey tones in William Merritt Chase's harbor scene showcase his signature technique and palette. In the Harbor demonstrates Chase's ongoing experimentation with plein-air painting throughout his career, both in America and abroad, as well as his artistic versatility. Working across a variety of mediums, techniques, and subject matters, Chase is considered one of the most influential turn-of-the-century American artists and teachers.
