Provenance: A North Carolina Estate; Brunk Auctions, Asheville, NC; a Southern Gentleman.

Other Notes: The identity of the gentleman in the painting is as of yet unconfirmed, though it is known that he is wearing the colors of Myopia Hunt Club in Hamilton, Massachusetts.


  • Condition: Complex repaired vertical tear (approx. 9 in.) extending from lower center edge through gentleman's jacket, with corresponding inpainting; conservation report label verso states that work is linen and aluminium lined.
