  • Notes: Louis Comfort Tiffany's illustrious career spanned from the 1870s through the 1920s. LCT, as he was called, began his career as a painter working under the influence of artists George Inness (1825-1894) and Samuel Coleman (1832-1920), and his paintings reflect his inclination for the exotic and organic. LCT focused his attention on decorative arts and interiors in the late 1870s and is perhaps best known for his leaded-glass lamp and window designs. He experimented with new glass manufacturing in the 1880s, eventually patenting an opalescent stained glass for his window and lamp designs. In 1902 following his father's death, LCT was appointed Tiffany & Company's first design director. He was a leader in the Art Nouveau movement and will forever be revered for his distinctly American design sensibility which he applied to the objects and jewelry he created at Tiffany.
