bearing hand-written inscription on verso of frame Painted December 1844 by Sarah Goodridge. George Albert Hunnewell, son of Sarah Kuhn Fuller and John Leonard Hunnewell. Born in Boston April 17th 1842, died in Santa Barbara, California, Feb 7th, 1876

Provenance: A Manchester, Massachusetts Lady.

Other Notes: Sarah Goodridge was a prolific Boston-based portrait miniature painter who studied under Gilbert Stuart and Elkanah Tisdale. She had a long term association with Daniel Webster, the Massachusetts Senator, and painted his likeness more than a dozen times. In 1828, Goodridge painted a portrait miniature of her own bared breasts and presented it to Daniel Webster. The painting, titled Beauty Revealed, is in the collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art.


  • Condition: Condition: Minor paint loss from frame rub along lower edge; small (1/4 in.) diagonal scratch in u.l. corner; arc-shaped scratch extending from skirt to background alongside child's left leg; wear at edges.
