  • Notes: Marguerite Thompson Zorach was a pioneer of modernism in America. Employing bright, bold colors and striking, simplified geometries, her mature paintings, especially her landscapes, express the influence of both Fauvism and Cubism. Born in California, Marguerite Thompson moved to Paris in 1907 and attended the Académie La Palette, a school of "post-impressionists," and exhibited at the Salon d'Automne and the Société des Artistes Indépendants. In 1912, she married artist William Zorach, and the two returned to the United States. She participated in the seminal Armory Show of 1913, was the only woman exhibitor in the selective 1916 Forum Exhibition of Modern American Painters, and served as the first President of the New York Society of Women Artists and as Vice President and Director of the Society of Independent Artists.
  • Condition: Overall good condition, with strong colors and intact paint.
