Provenance: Richard Morris Hunt, by descent in the family to the current owner.

Other Notes: Karl Bitter is best known for his architectural sculpture work, including the East Doors and Tympanum of the Trinity Church in New York City. Discovered by famed architect to New York's rich and famous, Richard Morris Hunt (American, 1827-1895), Bitter quickly gained notoriety in America and was appointed sculptor director of many of the country's expositions from 1893 until his premature death in 1915.
