  • Provenance: Provenance: By descent in a Newport, Rhode Island family.

    After studying at the Ecole des Beaux-Artes and a five year Italian sojourn after winning the Prix de Rome in 1860, Jules LeFebvre became a celebrated teacher at the Academie Julian in Paris. LeFebvre's lasting influence on his students at the Academie can be seen in the works of American artists such as Childe Hassam, Frank Benson, and Edmund Tarbell.
  • Condition: Minor scattered paint losses along edges, consistent with frame rub, particularly along upper right and lower left vertical edges (only visible when unframed); clear under UV examination.
