Other Notes: Desmond Fitzgerald (1846-1926) the son of a British army officer and his American wife, grew up in Providence, RI. He was a noted engineer who worked for the Boston & Albany Railroad and the Boston, New York, Chicago, San Francisco and Washington Water Works. He was a patron and avid collector of French and American Impressionist art and an early appreciator of Monet. He became a personal friend of Monet and was a frequent visitor at Giverney.
