CHARLES SCHNEIDER Red Glass Vase, with blue mottling
etched Schneider on base and etched France, on bottom; height: 14 in.

Other Notes: The French Art Deco glass artist Charles Schneider (1881-1953) apprenticed with the renowned French glass firm of Daum Freres and with his brother Ernest opened the Schneider glass works at Epinay-sur-Seine in France shortly before WWI. Beginning in 1918 and until the early 30's at the onset of the depression, Charles designed two lines of glass, one signed Schneider or Schneider France, and the other Le Verre Francais, Charder (a contraction of his first and last name).
At the height of its productivity as a glass factory, the Verreries Schneider employed approximately 500 craftsmen, many of whom had training working for Galle or Daum. Charles Schneider was primarily a glass designer and artist. He developed and was personally involved in the entire line of production. Charles Schneider was awarded the Legion of Honor and during his lifetime was repeatedly recognized by his peers for his achievements. In 1907 he received the Bronze Medal of the Society of French Artists.
