signed P. Thumann, l.r.; marked on verso with the cypher, KPM, and the letter H., also bearing a label signed and dated Parzen, F. Thumann '39; sight of plaque: 9 3/4 in. x 7 1/4 in.; framed: 18 in. x 15 1/2 in.

Other Notes: The Three Fates are mythological goddesses from Ancient Greece. Comprising Atropos, Lachesis and Clotho, they controlled the metaphorical thread of life of every mortal from birth to death. In this composition Atropos, the oldest of the three women, is depicted holding a pair of scissors cutting the thread of human life. Lachesis, on the right, is measuring the thread of life and Clotho, the standing youthful beauty, is spinning the thread.
