Grogan's 10th Anniversary Sale Top $1.9 Million Dollars
Grogan & Company's 10th Anniversary
Sale, held on
December 4 & 5, 1998, was an overwhelming success. The top lot of the auction, Robert
Spencer's Summertime (pre sale est: $40,000-60,000), an oil on canvas, sold for
$112,500. Afternoon Tea, and etching and aquatint by Mary Cassatt (pre
sale est: $80,000-120,000), fetched $101,500. An interior scene, Pavillion Petit
Colombe, by Walter Gay (pre sale est: 15,000-25,000), once owned by noted author and
interior designer Edith Wharton, brought $51,750 and a rare watercolor Dog Tooth
Violet by Charles Henry Moore (pre sale est: $1,000-1,500) surprised everyone by
selling for a new record price of $42,550.
Amongst the furniture offerings, a finely
carved set of 12 George II style mahogany dining chairs (pre sale est: $15,000-25,000)
sold for $37,950 and a pair of George III satinwood demilune cabinets (pre sale est:
$20,000-30,000) brought $24,150.
A gala reception party was held prior to the
opening of the exhibition for friends and clients. Over 300 guests turned out to help us
celebrate our 10th Anniversary.
