Generating the most pre-sale interest with inquiries from as far away as China, the Asian Works of Art, comprised of 78 lots, represented 25% of the gross sales.  The highlight was a Chinese Blue and White Five Piece Porcelain Garniture, from the Ch’ing Dynasty, Ch’ien-Lung Period (1736-1795).  The set far exceeded its $3,000-5,000 pre-sale estimate when it sold to a New York phone bidder for $74,750.  The second highest price was achieved by a Massive Chinese Blue, White and Aubergine Porcelain Urn on stand.  Estimated at $3,000-5,000, the urn sold to another New York phone bidder for $63,250.  A Chinese Glazed Porcelain Vase brought $27,600, a Carved White Jade Covered Vase sold for $17,250 and a Chinese Sang De Boeuf Splash Glazed Vase sold for $11,500.

Other highlights included a rare and important Pair of Minton Pate-Sur-Pate Chocolate Brown Two Handled Vases, signed by Louis Solon.   Originally purchased at the World’s Columbian Exposition in 1893, the vases had a pre-sale estimate of $30,000-50,000, and sold for $69,000 to a London phone bidder on behalf of a European Collection.  A similar Minton Pate-Sur-Pate Chocolate Brown Covered Three Handled Vase, pre-sale estimate $10,000-20,000, also sold over the phone for $31,050 to a Mid-west collector.  A Herter Brothers Renaissance Revival Carved Rosewood and Marquetry Inlaid Revolving Easel from an Austin Texas estate sold above its $20,000-30,00 pre-sale estimate for $51,750, to a Connecticut collector.

Side of White Barn, Bucks County, a vintage photograph by American Modernist, Charles Sheeler, brought the highest price of the auction, hammering down at $109,250.  The photograph was one of the few top lots that sold to a buyer in the room.  Edward Weston’s Shell and Rock Arrangement,  sold to a California collector via the phone for $34,500.  Also noteworthy, was a large collection of photographs by author and photographer Dorothy Norman, Woods Hole, Massachusetts that did very well grossing over $37,000 for the collection.  The sale also included works by Alfred Stieglitz and Margaret Bourke-White.
